Arrive Dublin airport early AM.
Rent Car at Airport
Drive to Northwest Dublin – Recommend the Smithfield Maldron Hotel. They have a car park just across the street for very low daily rates for guests. (around 10 Euro for 24 hours)
Grab some coffee and pastries from Third Space– an awesome little coffee shop on the same block at the car park.
Hitch a taxi ride or Uber across Dublin to the Famine Memorial. This will allow you to explore Dublin throughout the day and end up back near your hotel as you leave Guinness…the shorter the walk, the better!
On your way to Ireland or on the taxi ride to the memorial- listen to the Abarta Audio Guide of the 1916 Easter Day Rising ($1.99) to really get into the history of the city. It will discuss the various sites you will see and describe this fateful day in Irish history. It will also explain the bullet holes in the O’Connell monument you might otherwise miss.
